Self-sufficiency is the key to a successful voyage
“I make extensive maintenance schedules, and prefer to do most jobs myself or with the crew. In doing so, one assures the job is done properly and knows exactly how to make repairs. In the USA we got a few quotes to re-rig a 64ft ketch (standing and running rigging). The best quote was $55,000. With the crew we did it in a week for $7,000. Every one learned a lot, and I did get a "pro" in for a final inspection (nothing needed doing, all good).”
— Capt. Martin Papay.
